Top & Best universities in World, ranked no 1 universities, all information about world class learning university
If you ask anyone who was either a student of mechanical engineering
or presently enrolled in this course would say, ‘mechanical is the evergreen
branch of engineering’. This cliché has been passed around for decades but is
there any evidence backing this statement? What they simply mean is that no
matter how serious inflation or unemployment hit the country, but will be jobs for
mechanical engineering students. I have been pondering over this issue for a
long a time. Here I will try to discuss the requirements of best universitiesfor mechanical engineers .I will be taking reference from the latest
development and my personal experience.
As shown in the
chart above, manufacturing contributes almost 22% of GDP in India. The
manufacturing sector is expected to expand in the coming years as the new
initiative taken by the new government such as allowing 50% FDI in defence. The
immediate benefits can be seen for instance US MNC Lockheed Martin is shifting
its entire F16 fighter jet assembly unit to India. This is one example but
similarly many other giant groups are looking towards India for investment. Therefore this is expected to create a vast
demand or mechanical engineers. Therefore in the coming years this country need
to produced the finest mechanical engineer to caters this need
Mechanical
engineering encapsulates vast array of individual field of work, for example
automobile engineering, thermal engineering, fluid machinery, machine design,
industrial engineering and manufacturing are the some areas. And sometime the specific job requires
particular set of skills so that the task can be completed without any time
delay. Therefore the engineering colleges have to adopt the new curriculum
which serves the present needs.
Recently few
universities in India have started collaborating with Industries to equip their
students with the skills required by the industries. This is the beginning of a
new era as so far we have been reluctant towards any changes to the old pattern
of study. In my opinion this is the need of the hour and will provide the
future engineers with hand on experience with latest technology as well as
industry’s work culture. This is very crucial because normally when people join
industries as a fresher, they are shocked and overwhelmed by the change in
their environment.
Moreover there
is an urgent need to revitalise our education system. We should focus more on
the up gradation of our curriculum for accommodating the latest technology and
invention in the respective field. For instance presently the introduction of
3D printing is not less than a revolution. It is being used in almost every field;
even doctors are using it to create artificial body organs. The maker space
community all around the globe is jubilant over this discovery. Therefore i
believe we have to be more inclusive and flexible towards our courses. Many
universities have taken this initiative and they are incorporating new courses
to build the engineers of the future.
In addition to
this, developing the entrepreneurial skills in future engineers is the need of
the hour. As per our present structure, we put more emphasis of preparing
students to get a decent job but the country desperately need job creator than
job seeker. The main objective behind the ‘Make in India’ campaign is to
motivate people towards start-ups. Therefore engineer need to be provided the
basis of business models so that starting a business should not appear as a daunting
task. For example, in China the government is promoting the start-up therefore
all Chinese engineers and inventors are starting up their companies with an
unprecedented rate, this has given a massive boost to China’s economy.
In conclusion I
believe than many universities have realized the inherent problem and are
making the necessary changes. Therefore the future engineers from these
universities would not only be ideal to solve any engineering problem by the
application of their knowledge but in addition they will have the ability to
transform the economy.
