I had the privilege of studying in the top engineering college in India and it’s been a while since I graduated. It was quite an immersive and life changing experience for me. Moving to a completely new city and studying there was a bit daunting at first but it opened my mind to new ways of learning.  It helped me stop relying on others and taking responsibility for myself. And helped me find out what I was good at and develop those skills.

I also learned how to be more appreciative of the simple things in life that I always took for granted. We often overlook the little things because we are always trying to chase bigger things but as you grow older and look back, you realize that those little things mean a lot more than anything else.
Since I stayed in a hostel, I got a chance to stay on the campus. Staying in a hostel is an experience on its own. It taught me how to be disciplined, organized and independent.

A lot of stress was put on the overall development of the student at the university. They believed in preparing you for the bigger and better things in life and in my case they truly did it. Sometimes all you need is someone to have faith in you and push you to do things in life that you wouldn’t do otherwise. And the credit goes to the wonderful teachers who acted like pillars of support and encouragement throughout the program.

When I look back, I see how far I’ve come in life ever since I graduated. It’s been an exciting journey and the transformation has been phenomenal. At the university, I had access to excellent opportunities, classes and resources that helped in shaping me into a better version of me.
Plus being affiliated with a top university that has a certain reputation opens up great avenues for you. You job application gets a better response and that is a major benefit. The campus placement was quite good and I got placed in one of the top companies but when I decided to shift to a different company for career growth, I did not have trouble getting a new job because I had studied in a reputed university.

Well, all I can really say is that I’m proud to be an alumna of this university because not only it helped me take charge of my life but it also prepared me to face all kinds of situations life had to offer.

Autumn is here and I love the cool November breeze. The leaves have started to change their colors. I study in one of the top engineering colleges in Dehradun and it is situated next to a forest. I often walk around the campus to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous forest.  The leaves have turned yellow and soon the forest will look fiery orange and gold.

When I have time, I go sit by the window in my hostel room which overlooks the forest.  That’s my favorite spot and that’s where I spend most of my time daydreaming about various interesting things.
The university has beautiful gardens where most students sit and chat but I enjoy sitting in my favorite spot and contemplating about life and all that it has to offer. It’s quite a delightful feeling and oh the luxury of being away from the bustling city streets and enjoying a mug of coffee is something that not everyone can afford.

There is a tiny lane that passes through the forest and leads to a small gypsy settlement. I often see men, women and children walking down the lane or gathering firewood. Going to different places and settling there for a brief period of time and then moving to a completely unknown place. It all sounds exciting and adventurous but they must go through a difficult time getting to different places and there’s always the fear of wild animals if you live in the forest. But hey, these people are quite tough and are used to a nomadic lifestyle.

Winter is just around the corner and the university and I will be on my semester break. I know it for a fact that I am going to miss sitting by the window, looking at the beautiful forest, and watching the sun shining through the trees, playing peek-a-boo with me.

But hey, I have 3 more years at the university and I hope I never get tired of watching the sunrise and the beautiful forest.

I graduated from one of the top technical universities in northern India with a degree in Fashion Design. I’ve always been a very creative and artistic person with a passion to create interesting things. So after my 12th, a degree in Fashion Design seemed like the best option and I decided to go with it.

I specialize in accessories but you can choose apparels, footwear and accessories (jewelry, handbags, belts etc)

It may sound really interesting and fun but this involves a lot of work, time and energy. You need a very sharp mind to generate fashion ideas. But when you’re finally done working on a project and you get yourself a masterpiece, all the hard work pays off.
You can derive inspiration from anything you want as long as you know what you want to do. It could be an ancient form of art, an object, nature or a person.  You must have keen sense of color i.e. combination of shades and tones, visual imagination & knowledge of market trends Let your imagination flow and experiment with different textures, fabrics and colors etc to create something unique.

I remember while pursuing this course we had a competition and my team designed an outfit made entirely of feathers. It took us one week to complete it and the end result was a stunning piece of art. Needless to say, we won the competition. It was quite an exhilarating experience for all of us.
I underwent a rigorous 4 year program learning the fundamentals and the history of fashion. This foundation enabled me to understand the various aspects of fashion management and marketing and prepared me to meet the challenges of the fashion industry globally head on. After the completion of the course, I interned at a designer house. It was one of the most enriching experiences ever. I got a chance to attend fashion shows and meet a lot of renowned designers and that helped me build connections and I learned a great deal from every person I met. Every designer has a unique and distinct style and it’s important for you to have your signature style too. This will separate you from the others.

Also, be open to feedback and keep deriving inspiration from the things and people around you. And keep your creativity flowing because you can’t use up creativity. The more you use it, the more you have it.

Sometimes I sit and reflect upon my life choices. I decided to take admission in an engineering college in Dehradun and I think it was one of the best choices that I’ve ever made. Studying in a top technical university which has a grade A accreditation by NAAC is a big deal in itself. It is a very enriching experience and I’m really glad to be a part of it. It is a journey of learning that lasts a lifetime.  The programs that are offered here provide an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their knowledge, broaden their experience and develop their skills.

The teachers are ever so encouraging, nurturing and are great mentors and have a rich experience in their respective fields of study. They are pillars of support when it comes to enabling students to excel in their academics.

The university believes in an overall development of its students. Apart from academics, there are a lot of extra and co curricular activities that take place all year around. There are various clubs that you can be a part of based on your interest.  I joined the quiz and photography club and I think it’s a great way to hone your skills and also meet people who share the same interests as you do. The university conducts annual Fest where in each of these clubs invite participation from all the students of the university in various contests. Also, the social network that you develop here, make the time that you spend here, even more rewarding.

The students are engaged in activities which help them gain confidence in subjects they learn. All the lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops etc help a student in developing great learning skills which make them steadfast in their careers.

It is my last year in the university and I see a major change in me. I’m glad I got this opportunity and I made the most of it and did not while away my time doing absolutely nothing. I utilized every moment in shaping myself up so I could face any challenges in life. I entered the big university gates shy, unsure and not so confident but I know it for a fact that I’m going to walk out as a completely transformed person.

Given that child trafficking is lucrative and often linked with criminal activity and corruption, it is hard to estimate how many children suffer- but trafficking and exploitation is an increasing risk to children in India and around the world with children often being trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation, like prostitution, or for labour such as domestic servitude, agricultural work, factory work, mining, or child soldiering. There are 215 million children engaged in child labour, with 115 million of those children in hazardous work. Sometimes sold by a family member or an acquaintance, sometimes lured by false promises of education and a "better" life — the reality is that these trafficked and exploited children are held in slave-like conditions without enough food, shelter, or clothing and often severely abused and cut off from all contact with their families.

I had a blast this Diwali. Well quite literally. I’m back in my hostel and the university is quite empty and most students haven’t returned. They’re still high on the festivities I guess. My roommates aren’t back and that gave me a lot of time to reflect upon things. So sitting all by myself in my hostel room, a profound thought occurred to me. What does Diwali really mean to people?

Is it all about lighting diyas, setting off fireworks and crackers or eating sweets or exchanging gifts?

This festival of light symbolizes the victory of good over evil. But do we ever try to kill the evil within ourselves? We are deeply flawed as humans and every person has a vice that isn’t so nice. We let these vices get the better of us and soon they become a part of our personality.

How about we do something it? How about changing ourselves for good? I do realize change isn’t easy and most of us resist it but we fail to understand that it is for our own betterment. When we let go of unwanted things, we get blessed with better things. We attract good people and things that enrich our lives and make it more meaningful.

Get rid of jealousy, malice, greed, grudges, hate, addictions or any other “evil” that is stopping you from living a happy and fulfilling life. Make a little change and see the world around you light up like a million diyas.

For some people the word hostel is synonymous to Jail. Well, I was one of those people until I got a chance to be in one. I think it’s when you get to experience something, only then you understand what it is all about.

I got admission in one of the leading universities in northern India. To be honest, I was a bit scared about being in a hostel.  You see and read various unmentionable things that take place in hostels and I was quite terrified.

My whole perspective changed when I went to one and it was the most memorable time of my life. Not only I established some long lasting friendships but also learned how to be independent, disciplined and it punctual. I also learned how to manage money and spend it sensibly. I was quite a spendthrift but being away from home made me learn the value of money. It completely changed me as a person and the change was for good in case you’re wondering. And I’m glad it taught me many valuable lessons of life that have helped me in the long run.

In addition to this, being around people from different backgrounds and cultures makes you more tolerant towards others. And you also tend to acquire good qualities from them. One of my roommates was very organized and that’s something I picked from her while sharing a room with her. She was also very nurturing ad loving and would always cheer me up each time I felt homesick.
Yes, there are disadvantages of living in a hostel but I feel that they are surpassed by the good things it has to offer.

Hostels can’t replace home but it’s a home away from home and  I’m glad I got a chance to experience it and I have some really fond memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

I was lucky to study in one of the top universities in India and trust me when you study in a university like that, it completely transforms you.  I have always been very picky about things and I don’t do anything on a whim. I actually did a bit of research, shortlisted universities and then applied to them. But then I had a change of mind and decided to be in my hometown.

So I went with the one I thought was great and it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.
Choosing a university actually requires a lot of time and detail. You can’t go to just any other university. The struggle is real ladies and gentlemen. If you’re a bright student who wants to actually do something in life, it’s imperative to find the right university that will build you up, nurture and polish you while preparing you for the bigger and better things in life.

I remember my first day in college. I walked into the campus and trust me it’s not funny when you have a million emotions going through you at the same time. Well, that’s a tad exaggerated. I was happy, nervous, scared, excited and I felt a bit lost.

It’s been a while since I graduated and I’m not the same person anymore. A good university will make you feel accomplished at the end of your program; it will mould you into a better person and instill a confidence in you that you didn’t have when you first walked into class. It will also open up doors to a lot of great opportunities because graduates of prestigious universities have a better chance of being hired over those candidates who come from a less known university.

Moreover your chances of landing a great job are high because these universities have tie ups with major companies. I also believe that a good university is definitely worth the investment because it will equip you with skills that will stay with you for a lifetime and help you overcome any challenge you may face in your career.

Figuring out a career can be tricky. And if you’re like me, you’ll be clueless or confused or both at the same time. Choosing a career is not rocket science but it’s not that simple either. But some people have it all figured out. They have their entire life planned out and they know exactly what they want to do in life. Well, some of us are different and we don’t really have a plan. We go with the flow and see where life takes us.  And it’s all fun and games until you find yourself stuck in a crappy job or sitting on the kitchen floor eating peanut butter out of a jar because that’s all you can afford with a meager paying job, or worse broke with absolutely no direction in life.
So, how do you choose the right career for yourself? Say, you graduate college and you land a nice paying job but that’s not what you want to do. And you go to bed each night thinking if you made a mistake by pursuing a particular program in college. And now you’re not happy with the way your life’s shaping up.

The first step in choosing a career is to ask yourself what you really want to do in life and what you’re good at.  And trust me; most people don’t have the answer to that. It’s not as easy as it seems. Once you have that answer, the rest is child’s play.
Suppose you want to work with children, you could opt for a profession that gives you a chance to be around children. You could be a teacher, pediatric, child psychologist, child welfare specialist, coach, child social worker etc. The options are endless and you will actually enjoy your job because that’s something you love and are good at.
Once you’ve figured out what you really want to do in life, you need to know how to get there. There are various universities that offer under graduate, graduate programs and doctoral programs. You need to do a bit of research and find out about the courses these universities offer and the cost involved in pursuing them, scholarships offered etc. Most colleges and universities have counselors that guide you to find the right program for yourself and steer you in the right direction.

Be focused and believe in yourself and even if you don’t land a great job in the first try, don’t lose hope and give up. Use these mistakes as stepping stone to move forward in life. Keep everything in perspective and move steadily towards your goal. And at the end you’ll have a rewarding and fulfilling career for sure.

One of the things I love doing is curling up on the couch with a big mug of coffee, a book and some Debussy playing in the background.  Trust me; it doesn’t get any better than that.
When I read something, I have a video playing in my head. I see and feel things. It’s like feeling what the characters feel.  It’s a surreal experience. I’ve been labeled as completely lunatic but that’s how I am.

When I was a kid, I used to write stories. Most of them were obscure and lacked a plot. But hey I was 5 years old and you can’t expect a kid to write like Dickens. I started writing poetry a few years ago. But you need to take out time for the things you love and I can’t seem to get enough “me time”. I haven’t really written anything in ages, except for a poem for someone I thought I was in love with. Love makes you do all kinds of things isn’t it?

I sometimes wish that instead of studyingbusiness, I had pursued a degree in arts or fine arts or studied literature. I’ve always been a creative person and I should’ve gotten into a creative field- preferably creative writing. Maybe I’ll enroll in for some program in one of the universities in my city or maybe move out so I can get a lot more exposure in terms of learning. Well, the possibilities are endless and you never know if I publish my own book titled- Musings of a crazy girl.

On a serious note, if you are passionate about writing, you can always opt for a Bachelor's degree programs in English, journalism or communications. Many top universities offer programs that focus on specific areas of writing. The courses cover fiction, short stories, poetry etc. You can also learn how to write feature articles, travel writing, news reports, screenplays etc.

Apart from this there are workshops that you can attend to enhance your writing skills. These workshops help you understand the nuances of writing while providing an environment to stimulate writers.

Okay enough of that serious talk, I need some coffee and the couch looks quite inviting too. I think I should pick a book and plop on the couch and let the book take me to a far away land, away from all this chaotic and mad city life.  Care to join me? It will be a fine adventure, I promise.

Well it’s that time of the year again, the much ‘awaited’ pardon my sarcasm while my stomach grumbles Navratri- 9 days of obeisance, prayer and gratitude. But I write today talking about the other side of Navratri- the dearth of non-vegetarian food!
As an Engineering student hailing from Bengal, and idling away time in my first year at one of the Best Private University in Uttarakhand, busy preparing for the mid -term examinations that looms like a BIG Demon who needs to be defeated; no one can deny the importance of good nutrition, of a solid well-balanced diet of meats, grains and vegetables. Here I interject again- No matter what my vegetarian friends and hostel mates at my University say- a tasty bowl of lentils can never replace the mouth- watering taste of a chicken leg.

I wander from one mess to the next, from one on-campus restaurant to the next, much alike a zombie in one of the drama series that seem to have everyone biting their nails these days; hoping to find a discarded egg or a wing somewhere. This, while my brain played tricks on my taste buds; stimulating images of ‘unholy’ mouth -watering delicacies; making me forget my calculus computations and thermal formulae taught in the first year of theLeading Technical University in Dehradun.

I was doomed- with no hopes in sight, on the brink of serious malnutrition when I discovered the next best thing- Kuttu parantha, an extremely scrumptious invention of crafty vegetarians, served with a bowlful of steaming hot potato curry.

I almost wept, fell upon my knees and thanked God, and the Goddess of course, for this amazing discovery that I accidentally stumbled upon in the on-campus restaurant.

Another amazing discovery- that momos could be veg and so could spring rolls! Thank you Bikano and on-campus Tuck shops- I still breathe, I am still alive, I still live to see a new day!

So, all in all while all my religious north-indian friends fast and rigorously try to convert me to see the bright side of this beautific festival, which indeed is beautiful with all the odhnis and the song and dance, I still stand by and wait woefully, munching on my Kuttu Parantha and veg spring rolls, for the day when I can feast my eyes, and my tongue, to a bucketful of Chicken Biriyani.

Till then my friends…you shall find me wandering!

Graphic Era University’s vision is to grow into a center of international education of a high standard that can be compared to the best in the world. So GEU spends a lot of efforts to implement international education. That's why there are so many projects with AIESEC for international interns to be engaged in.
I was lucky enough to have interviews with some international interns in the University, so I'd like to reveal some details about their works in the internship.

Interviewee 1:  Henry G Stryker Jr. (Liberia, Information Technology)
Henry is a big sunshine boy from Liberia and he is a sophomore in Information Technology. His project has 3 people which is called Video and image processing.
They analyze images taken by security cameras under limited conditions to know different components and process them to get the expected results out of security purpose.
He also told me that he chose this project because AIESEC mandatorily suggested him to. As for the expectation of this project, he said he just wanted to do a good job in this project.

Interviewee 2: Igor Corbari Brasil (Brazil, Petroleum Engineering)
Igor's project Petroleum Engineering is intensively related to his background, so no doubt he is in this project.
He is patient and enthusiastic when he tries to explain his main job in the project. Generally, his job is to do data analysis of geological information about an explored area. He uses some methods to get geological data (mostly graphs), then visualize the data by applying to some software to get more detailed results.
What's more, he told me he believed these days working and living in the University can be a good experience for him. "The primary expectation is to learn, to have contacts with professors and students in GEU as well. If possible, I'd like to establish a partnership between Graphic Era University and my university", he said.

Interviewee 3: Mostafa Mohamed (Egypt, Electronics and Communication Engineering)
His project is to control solar panel. It may seem irrelevant to his background, but he said he could do this, his expectation is to do what he is supposed to do.
What actually he does in the project is using PID controller (Proportional-integral-derivative controller) to control a solar panel that generates 250V power. Moreover, he gets experimental results to analyze and do further research by using Matlab(A programming language which is intended primarily for numerical computing) and Orcad(A software is used mainly by electronic design engineers and electronic technicians)

Interviewee 4: Jacob Drewitt (England, Civil Engineering)
Jacob wanted to learn something new, something different from the books, so he chose this project "Building Structure Analysis". The project is tightly linked to his background, but it provides him more chances to solve real questions rather than answer the exam questions.
Since the data has already been gathered, he needs to analyze them by using models to figure out the building structures, then to explain. He told me that the whole process was never finished by himself before, so it was challenging but helpful as well.

Working in Graphic Era University can be amazing because so many experienced mentors and intelligent co-workers are supporting and sharing. We are learning a way of thinking rather than the knowledge itself.
